September brings the curtain down on summer, and La Barrosa gets its silence back. The umbrellas are packed away, the sand breathes again and the sea is left to those who know how to read it. The sun is still here. The light is still summer light. And week after week, the waves roll in with more power.

Autumn changes who comes to the coast. From September to the end of October, travellers from Northern Europe arrive looking for what still reigns here: sunny days, summer temperatures, sometimes even better, and prices that finally drop in one of Spain’s most sought-after areas. They find miles of sand all to themselves, on a beach ranked among the best in Europe.
In the height of summer, La Barrosa is already spectacular. Now picture it in autumn.

Autumn brings the best conditions of the year. Fewer people in the line-up, more space on every wave and a sea with more character than in August. That is why people come to us, whether they want to learn from scratch or keep improving with us. The wave ends. The joy carries on. What fills me most after 26 years is the look on people’s faces as they walk out of the sea, when the session is over and the sky lights up in an endless red sunset. Sometimes horses wander past along the shoreline. Nobody is in a hurry to leave.
That, too, is La Barrosa in autumn: a paradise you won’t find in any brochure.
